A national steering group, including representatives of the Ministry for Social Affairs, Swedish municipalities and county councils, the National Board, the Medical Products Agency, Apoteket and Carelink have jointly developed a national IT strategy for health and social care

The strategy presents basic principles for national collaboration in the IT area to support the continued development and renewal of health-care field. Sweden's municipalities and counties, SKL, is to carry out activities to all local governments decide to adopt and apply IT strategy to their health care operations. All Dalarna municipalities and the county council has also taken a policy decision to adopt the strategy.

SKL has the government received special funds to dispose of incentives to put the strategy in local government health care activities. After applications have been Region Dalarna granted a total of 603 000 SEK to develop an organized IT cooperation between the county's municipalities and between them and the county council. It is intended that the funds primarily will be used to support the work of the development areas identified in the strategy and action plan "ICT in municipal care."
