The project “Move to Dalarna” works to promote Dalarna as an attractive region to live, work and run business in.
Since December 2007 the regional development council, Region Dalarna, runs the project “Move to Dalarna” with financial support from the EU. Before this the work had been a part of the project “The Image of Dalarna” since 2005. The history behind the project is that Dalarna are facing a shift in generations, when the large group of people born in the 1940´s, will retire. To balance the demographic structure in the region we need an increased inward migration.
The aim of this project is to increase the interest for Dalarna as an attractive region to live in, but also to find methods and forums where the concerned parties can cooperate around this matter. Move to Dalarna is cooperating with the municipalities of Dalarna, the county council, employers and businesses, the public employment service and other parties that work with development of the region.
The work of the project is implemented by marketing, personal contacts with people that are interested in moving to Dalarna, networks, and by raising the importance of inward migration on the regional agenda. The results have been very good. Since 2005, around 400 households have moved to Dalarna as a result of the project. Thanks to the good results, this project was the only Swedish project, to be awarded in November 2009 with the Best Practice Certificate, from EIPA (European Institute of Public Administration).
