The Psychiatry Division coordinates general and forensic psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry and habilitation in a joint organisation.
General outpatient psychiatric care
Outpatient adult psychiatric care is divided into three sectors, with clinics in most municipalities in Dalarna. Outpatient care services are responsible for treating patients with severe psychiatric problems, by such means as medical treatment, psychotherapy and psychoeducational methods, and through integrated care and support coordination with the municipality and primary care services. Outpatient care includes several occupational categories, and the psychiatric teams comprise doctors, psychologists, counsellors, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, nurses and orderlies.
General Psychiatry in Dalarna
General psychiatric care in the county is concentrated in a single clinic operating in both Falun and Säter. It offers the county's care services in A&E, 24-hour care with four wards, activities for substance abuse and dependence, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and county-wide activities for adults with eating disorders (DALA ABC, i.e. anorexia and bulimia care).
The 65-bed forensic psychiatric clinic located in Säter has regional responsibility for care and treatment of patients sentenced to forensic psychiatric treatment.
Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
The main function of child and adolescent psychiatric services is to treat young people with severe psychiatric problems. The work takes place interprofessionally, in cooperation with the child's or adolescent's parents and often with various partners, such a schools and providers of social services, habilitation care, child and adolescent medicine, primary care and adult psychiatry.
Habilitation offers support, education and training, advice and treatment for children, adolescents and adults with disabilities and he people close to them. This support is designed to promote well-functioning everyday activities, a good quality of life and articipation in the community. Habilitation in Dalarna is a county-wide specialist resource available at five locations in the county.
Psychiatric Development Unit
In Säter, there is a unit, that coordinates development and training issues within the Psychiatric Division. Key functions are to provide higher vocational education and training for orderlies and assistants in psychiatric care; to coordinate national projects initiated through the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SALAR) and NYSAM, a network for exchange of earning and development by sharing key healthcare statistics; to teach trainee psychologists the role of director of studies; and to administer the management and information systems.
