Public Healthcare in Dalarna

The public health care system in Dalarna offers excellent medical care to the local population in Dalarna. The main actors in local health care are district health clinics, hospitals with specialized care and dental healthcare clinics.

District healthcare clinics

In Dalarna there are 25 district healthcare clinics, located in almost every municipality. They are the foundation of the public healthcare system in Dalarna.

Dalarna is a large county and sparsely populated in the northern parts. These parts in particular have a special demand on the capacity to offer excellent healthcare.

The district healthcare clinics are the first point of contact for patients. Employees at these clinics work with preventative care and provide a wide variety of medical consulting and treatment.

All residents are registered with the healthcare clinic of their own choice, usually the one nearest to their home. General practitioners, nurses, nursing assistants, social workers, physiotherapists, psychotherapists and many other professionals work together to provide excellent care.

Hospitals

When needed patients are referred to one of the county hospitals for specialist consultation and treatment. The hospital in Falun is the biggest emergency hospital in the county with roughly 450 beds and offers a wide range of medical specialities. The hospital covers an area of 277 000 people and serves as an emergency hospital for the southern and central parts of Dalarna.

Mora hospital is the trauma hospital for the northern and western parts of Dalarna. It covers an area of around 80 000 people. During tourist season the demand of hospital care highly increases due to visiting tourists.

We also have two smaller hospitals in Avesta and in Ludvika. Avesta hospital covers an area of roughly 40 000 people and Ludvika hospital covers an area of about 37 000 people.

Dental Healthcare Clinics

The dental healthcare in Dalarna consists of 22 clinics located all over the county. We have clinics within general dentistry, specialist clinics, dental hospital care and our own prosthetic laboratory. The clinics are modern with digital X-rays and up to date technology. The dental health service in Dalarna has approximately 500 employees which include dentists, dental hygienists and dental nurses.
