Aspen

Aspens rank alongside willows as the most important deciduous trees in our northern forests. Aspens are important for wildlife and fungi. A wide variety of insects, lichens, and fungi live on Falu Park’s aspens. They are also popular with both small and large cavity-nesting birds. In Dalarna, big aspens rarely live more than 300 years. When they die and fall to the ground, they put out suckers (root sprouts) and form dense stands of saplings that gradually thin out.
